Children and adolescents participated in preparatory virtual forums for the III Pan-American Child Forum

During the month of July, three preparatory virtual forums were held on the eve of the III Pan American Forum of Children and Adolescents that will take place in Cartagena, Colombia between October 28 and 31, 2019.

The Forums were divided into subregions: Central America (to which Mexico and the Dominican Republic joined), North America-Caribbean and South America, had the leading participation of the members of the Network of Children and Adolescents Correspondents (CORIA Network), children of organized groups and advisory councils in the region.

The adults who participated exercised the role of listening, moderation, synthesis and registration. For this, the IIN-OAS through the area of ​​Promotion and Protection of Rights had the support of participation technicians, members of the Child and Adolescent Participation Link Conversations (CEPIA), members of the Regional Group of Advisers on Adolescent Child Participation (GRAPIA) and Referential Adults of Adolescent Child Correspondents (ARCO).

These instances were an oportunity to exchange and discuss the document previously made by the participants, on the recommendations of the Pan American Forum I (2010) and II (2014). In addition to reflecting on the validity of these recommendations, new ones were formulated, and the participants expressed the commitments they are willing to assume.

  • Central America Forum- July 9. Around 90 children and adolescents from: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Mexico and Panama participated.
  • North America and Caribbean Forum – July 16. Around 8 children and adolescents from: Canada, the United States and Trinidad and Tobago participated.
  • South America Forum – July 23. Around 50 children and adolescents from: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela participated.

The IIN-OAS thanks the children, adolescents, youth and adults participating in these spaces of exchange, opinion and listening.
